CAGE ASSESSMENT

Very often we do not recognize if a drug or alcohol problem exists in ourselves or our loved ones. The following questions may help determine if there may be a problem.

C	= CONTROL
	Has the user tried without success to gain control by cutting down, or changing brands of alcohol, or changing types of drugs?
A	= ANGER
	Does the user become angry when someone suggests excessive use of drugs or alcohol? Do others become angry because of the user's behavior?
G	= GUILT
	Does the user feel guilt or remorse about behavior, or words said, during or after a drinking or drugging episode?
E	= EYE-OPENER
	At any time of day, is a drink or drug taken to even things out, to make things seem manageable?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, further assessment could help you determine if alcohol or other drugs are injuring you or your loved ones.
