RED RIBBON CONTEST HISTORY

Little boy sits at a table that says "Look at me I'm drug free!"

October 2009 marked the 24th anniversary of the Red Ribbon Week National Campaign. This celebration is in honor of Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Agent, who was killed by drug traffickers in 1985. This campaign was created by his family and friends as a way to honor his memory and the work he accomplished n his fight against drugs.

This year we would again like to capitalize on the talent, creativity and initiative of your students. As you encourage your students to get involved and take a stand against substance abuse, remind them there is both concern for the use of illegal drugs and the use/misuse of legal drugs.

We are also interested in your annual plans for this celebration. Let us know if you or your students are planning an event that deserves extra recognition. You can send us notification via email.
